Today, our worst fears were confirmed: our ice-cream scented fridge was on its way out.
I had suspected it for months because most things would not freeze in the freezer like popsicles, ground beef and bread. Things in our fridge had also gone bad surprisingly quickly (and repeatedly) like milk, sour cream and cheese. Jeremy never lost hope that it would be fine but I held fast to my suspicions, and when we pulled out our ground beef Friday night and found that after a week in the freezer it was not frozed and past its expiration date, he finally conceded and agreed to call the appliance store. (I think part of this was motivated by the notion that another taco night could be ruined should this happen again.)
So, the mechanic came out today and informed us that there was not enough gas (as in the stuff that runs through the squiggly tubes in the back of the fridge) to freeze things--just enough to keep it all cool. He also informed us that getting more gas isn't really a viable solution and that we'd be better getting a new fridge.
Total. Bummer.
But, the upside is that without us even asking, he said to come down to the appliance store this week and that he would help us replace it for little to no extra charge. (Btw, this is a second hand appliance store--isn't it great to get that kind of service?) We are quite thankful for that 6 month warranty right now!
Hopefully we'll have a new fridge by the end of the week.
